Beaches You Must Visit in San Diego

La Jolla Shores

La Jolla Shores is a San Diego beach that’s not to be missed. The sand is white, the water is warm, and the view of the ocean is simply breathtaking. It has a mile-long stretch of soft sand that curves along the coastline with just enough space in between each curve to keep it from feeling crowded. There are also plenty of facilities nearby, including restrooms, showers, and parking lots. This beach is one of the precious few in San Diego that’s protected from large waves, so its shallower waters are perfect for young kids and those who aren’t very comfortable in the water.   What is there to do in La Jolla Beach? Divers and snorkelers will enjoy visiting the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve, which is located directly adjacent to La Jolla Shores. This is a massive park lying entirely beneath the water. There are also 6,000 acres of ocean bottom and tidelands to explore with snorkeling or dive gear. Additionally, there are four different environments to explore at the park: a rocky reef, a kelp forest, sand flats, and a submarine canyon.   Lifeguards are on duty, and it’s also regarded as having the gentlest surf in San Diego, making it ideal for families. Coronado Beach

Coronado Beach, located in San Diego Bay, is the perfect spot to spend a day at the beach. It’s part of Coronado Island, which is home to the iconic Hotel del Coronado where Marilyn Monroe filmed Some Like it Hot. The hotel itself is a massive beachfront resort that’s more like its own little city than a hotel, and you can enjoy all of its amenities while relaxing on the sand or riding the waves.   There are a number of fun things to do at Coronado Beach, which is located directly in front of the hotel. If you’re looking for something low-impact, you can sit on the beach, play frisbee, or lay out a towel as well as soak up some rays. If you want to get wet, you can go for a swim in the shallow bay water or skimboard on the wide sand area. It’s also extremely Instagram-friendly due to the high mica content in the sand, so it’s great for taking photos. Coronado Beach Credit:

Voltaire Street Beach

Voltaire Street Beach, located in San Diego’s Ocean Beach district, is an oceanfront location that combines a fantastic beach with entertaining things to do. This beach in San Diego is lined with fascinating local stores and restaurants before it dead ends into the beach parking lot. With volleyball nets, shuffleboard courts, as well as a lifeguard tower, this outdoor beach hangout is ideal for bringing your family for some fun in the sun.   When you’re at the beach, sometimes the best way to spend time is just relaxing. If that’s what you want to do, Voltaire Street Beach will be perfect. This beach is less crowded than other beaches in Ocean Beach, and it’s a good place for a peaceful afternoon. There are picnic tables and basic facilities.   If you want more activity, there are plenty of things to do around this area. Dog Beach is a block away from this beach, and it’s famous for its dog-friendly atmosphere. If you don’t have a dog of your own, this might not be the place for you—but if you love dogs (and who doesn’t?), it can offer some entertaining company.  Voltaire Street Beach San Diego Credit:

Pacific Beach

Pacific Beach is one of San Diego’s most famous neighborhoods, and the main section of its main beach is a beloved spot for locals and tourists alike. The beach itself is an idyllic, quintessential Southern California experience, offering miles of soft white sand, warm water, and a wide expanse of very smooth seafloor—one that’s especially safe for swimming.   Pacific Beach’s beachfront location puts it in prime territory for those who love to be active. The dedicated bike path is a great way to get around and soak up the local culture. The boardwalk has a number of shops, eateries, and resorts from which to choose, and the beach is great for everything from surfing lessons to yoga. With so many ways to spend your time, you’re sure to find something that’s just right for you! Pacific Beach San Diego Credit:

Playa Pacifica

A lot of people assume that the Playa Pacifica is just a fun name for the beach–they can’t imagine a whole resort on the beach. But in fact, it’s quite a bit different from your typical San Diego beach. Located between Mission Bay and Shelter Island, the Pacifica is a wide stretch of sand, about a mile long and varying in width from about 40 to 100 yards. It has its own semi-private beach area with lifeguards, bathrooms, and showers, as well as a little marina with boat and water sports rentals.   In addition to the beach, there are plenty of other things to do in Playa Pacifica. There’s a tot lot, which is like a barefoot playground; basketball courts; fire pits; as well as picnic areas where you can have barbecues or parties. The picnic area has tables, grills, and places for kids to play. You can even see seals from the shore here. Playa Pacifica, a family-friendly San Diego beach with pristine sand, kid-friendly services, and beautiful views, is rarely crowded.
